Year-end tax planning for 2026, in plain English
Most year-end tax moves count for 2026 only if they are finished by Thursday, December 31, 2026. Four short guides cover the dates, the numbers, your timing choices and business moves.
Prepared by Prem Tax and Accounting Corp. Last reviewed November 6, 2026. Figures as of November 6, 2026.
Tax year 2026 is the year you report on the return you file in 2027. Gifts, retirement withdrawals, Roth conversions, equipment and stock sales mostly count for 2026 only if they are finished by Thursday, December 31, 2026. Some payments, such as the fourth estimated tax payment, follow on Friday, January 15, 2027. We write each guide to be read in about three minutes, and every number carries its source and its tax year.
