How we follow tax changes, and how you can too

New tax guidance arrives almost every week. Here is a short routine, the official feeds worth using, how to tell a final rule from a proposal and the dates on our calendar.

Prepared by Prem Tax and Accounting Corp. Last reviewed November 6, 2026. Figures as of November 6, 2026.

Since July 2025 the IRS and Treasury have issued notices, rules, FAQs and forms for the new tax law, Public Law 119-21 (the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to most people), at a steady pace. The Monday Mailbox Round below is a short weekly routine for people who must keep up. Our tax news page covers the big changes.

The short version
  • Use official sources only: IRS, Treasury, Federal Register, Congress.gov and your state revenue department.
  • No working RSS feed turned up for IRS news or the Tax Court. The IRS email lists take their place.
  • A final rule has a Treasury Decision (T.D.) number. A proposed rule has a REG number and a comment deadline.

The Monday Mailbox Round

  • Start with the IRS Working Families Tax Cuts page, then the week's news releases.
  • Skim the newest Internal Revenue Bulletin.
  • Check the Federal Register page for IRS rules and proposed rules.
  • Read your Congress.gov alerts. A bill becomes law only when enacted.
  • Write the date and what you saw. Flag anything that changes a plan.

Reading what you find

A final rule says "Final regulations" and carries a T.D. number and an effective date. A proposed rule is not binding yet. A notice that announces future regulations is interim guidance. An IRS FAQ is informal. Invented example: on a Monday you find a notice that says regulations are coming. You log it as Waiting and watch for a REG number. Our guide to reading cases explains the weight of each.

Dates on our calendar

  • November 9, 2026: final car-loan interest regulations take effect.
  • December 2026 and January 2027: watch for final 2026 forms and the 2027 filing season start, which the IRS has not announced. Filing dates are on our tax calendar.

Common questions

Is there an RSS feed from the IRS?

None turned up. The IRS email lists send news releases and alerts when it issues advance copies of guidance. The Federal Register does offer an RSS feed for IRS documents.

How do I tell final guidance from a proposal?

Check the header. Final or temporary regulations show a T.D. number and an effective date. Proposed rules show a REG number and a comment deadline. Our [state and IRS gaps guide](/current-topics/obbba/state-and-irs-gaps/) lists what is still open.

How often should I check?

People who rely on tips, overtime or car-loan deductions, or who own a business, often check monthly. Others often look each November and January.
